The BRASILIAN FUTEBOL is the perfect training tool to improve players' technical
abilities. The size of the Futebol forces players to focus on their
techniqueand sharpens eye/foot coordination. It's texture makes it more
lively which will develop a good first touch as well as a "soft
touch" for higher level players. But the bounce is also ideal for the
begginer allowing them more bounces between touches thus greater success.
The futebol is also weighted similar to a size 5 regulation ball which
developes a truer touch than most small balls. Training with a smaller ball will improve players' abilities to find the center
of the ball or sweet spot. Developing the ability to strike or control the Futebol
correctly translates into improved technical mastery of the soccer ball. Remember - If a
player can trap' control and pass the bouncy smaller Futebol - It makes sense that
performance will be improved when dealing with a larger, less lively soccer
ball. Most
technical training done with a soccer ball can be substituted with the BRASILIAN FUTEBOL.
THE BRASILIAN FUTEBOL PROGRAM
The BRASILIAN FUTEBOL PROGRAM outlines some of the various
ways coaches and players alike can utilize the BRASILIAN FUTEBOL as a training tool. The
BRASILIAN FUEBOL PROGRAM is broken down into four major areas.
I. Physical Preparation:
Involves creating an individual player routine around
the BRASILIAN FUTEBOL as well as how to incorporate this routine into group and team
activities.
II. Technical Training
- Shows the use of the BRASILIAN FUTEBOL as a technical
training tool.
III. Small games and Futebol Games
- Demonstrates the use of the BRASILIAN FUTEBOL
in small-sided or modified games, as well as a number of Futebol Games as fun means of
competition and development.
IV. Other User
- Briefly illustrates a number of other ways that the versatile
BRASILIAN FUTEBOL can be incorporated into training sessions.
PHYSICAL PREPARATION
In Brazil, physical preparation means fitness. Fitness covers all physical aspects
needed to play the game: speed, quickness, strength, balance, endurance, agility,
explosiveness and many more.
By creating a juggling routine with the Brasilian Futebol that involves a variety of
touches and movementsplayers' can develop skill and athleticism as it relates to the game.
The thousands of touches that a player will execute in the juggling routine will improve
the overall coordination of the beginning player while refining the touch and, what we
call, the kinestetic awareness of the accomplished player.
An important quality of the Brasilian Futebol is the bounce. Incorporated into the
juggling exercise, the bounce helps beginning or lesser skilled players develop confidence
faster. Using the bounce gives players time to gather themselves between touches and
adjust to the situation encouraging the use of proper mechanics and technique. They see
the ball for longer so movements are more fluid .This leads to a higher success rate thus
leading to accelerated skills development.(see the basic juggling program)
The accomplished player can develop rigorous, fast-paced routines that stress: a
quality first touch, agility, physical technical and tactical speed, fitness and a
determination to succeed. At the advanced level, incorporating the bounce into a routine
the player can refine game related moves and timing while developing a rhythm related to
the various conditions of the fast paced game.
THE INDIVIDUAL ROUTINE
-
A. The Basic Touches
Players will build a random individual routine evolving around the Futebol. We will
outline some basic touches for the juggling routine but strive for player creativity to
fuel the action. The first premise regards the "bounce". Players will use the
bounce as part of their routine. In essence what we will do is juggle with a bounce. Using
the bounce is very important because we will build everything else off of it. The
objective of the juggling routine is simple: Keep the Futebol bouncing (live). Players
build the routine by adding specific types of touches using various parts of their bodies.
These touches will at times, keep the Futebol up, while other times the touches will
propel the Futebol to the ground perpetuating the bounce.
Example:
*Players will juggle the Futebol in the same manner as a regular soccer ball. Touches with
the top of the foot or the thigh propel the Futebol into the air where we can let it
bounce and move on to another type of touch.
* The Futebol is also driven to the ground to produce a bounce. This could be done with
many parts of the body- sole of the foot, outside of the foot, inside of the foot, the
knee, head, etc. By utilizing a variety of touches to keep the Futebol alive' we can
promote specific motor skills development Through repetitive touches the players develop
control of their bodies leading to better control of the ball. Specific demands increase
the level of focus of the juggling players.
Example:
* Players will focus on using the bottom of the foot to slap the Futebol to the ground to
create the bounce, always keeping it "live". Now they will progress to specific
parts of the foot, - heel tap, toe tap, outside of the foot inside of the foot.
* Now alternate left foot and right foot touches. Specific demands will improve the
player's ability to put his/her foot on the ball. Players will simultaneously develop
tracking ability (eye-foot coordination) as well as the muscular coordination to control
how they come in contact with the ball. As players learn more touches, their ability to
create their own variations grows. The players now work to master as great a number of
touches as possible- Keep theFutebol alive.
B. Adding Movement
Players will now incorporate movement around the Futebol as they use their variety of
touches and bounces. Each bounce allows the player an opportunity to devise some way to
intertwine the movement of their body, the bounces of the Futebol and their own touches.
Example:
* As the player juggles and touches the Futebol - as the ball hits the ground the player
can now do a "step over" move over the bounce. * By creating a higher bounce the
player can duck under the Futebol from one side to the other.
* A36Odegree turn as the Futebol takes a bounce. As the player develop more touches, they
also develop their coordination and create fluid body movements within their routine.
Again the objective remains to keep the Futebol alive.
C. Increasing the Focus
As the players become more comfortable with the Futebol, the demands of the routine
increase and very much refine both the players touch and body control. Altering the
environment in which the routine takes place will achieve higher focus.
Example:
* The player will now perform the routine within the restrictions of a grid. This static
routine increases in difficulty as the space gets smaller. Each touch, each movement must
be a little more precise in order to remain inside the grid.
* Each player's routine will now be unrestricted but with purpose. In essence, the player
will take the Futebol for a walk or jog. The players must incorporate the touches and
movements while directionally moving the Futebol with purpose. This "dynamic"
routine improves the players' abilities to use their touches to create specific responses
with the Futebol. The first touch becomes a greater part of the focus. * One player will
keep 2 Futebols alive simultaneously.
D. Futebol "live"
Futebol "live" puts the players routine under pressure- Futebol
"live" can be adapted and modified any number of ways to accommodate any numbers
of players. The Rules of Futebol `Live" are simple:
* Keep the Futebol Bouncing. (This can be amended to rolling depending on level of player)
* Dead Ball Penalty (Can be paid immediately or accumulated until the end of the round)
* Futebol "Live" has a start and a conclusion (Timed Interval or Other
Variations) Now the player(s) must perform a juggling routine under pressure of penalty.
Whether the penalty is 2 or 3 sit-ups or push-ups, or other, is up to you. Be creative
shout your penalties and have them continue to revolve around the Futebol.
Example:
* Individual game - Dead Ball Penalty: player must sit with extended legs, Futebol between
ankles and squeeze for a 10 count Then continue with routine. Game to 5 - 5 dead balls
ends round.
* Players can compete or work as a pair. Groups can compete or work as teams Futebol
"Live increases the intensity of the Routine. 'Live' rules can be applied in any
environment (Static live in a small grid. Any Futebol that touches the ground outside the
grid is dead in addition to dead ball penalty)
GROUP FUTEBOL
Group Futebol utilizes the individual ability of each player with the structure of a
small group. While continuing to develop the players first touch, balance, etc. in the
manners shown, we will now develop environments that promote problem solving, teamwork,
communication and decision making. Present players with challenges to be solved as a
group- Numbers in the group may vary. Create group environments based on ratios.
Example:
(all are "futebol Live")(all can work with any numbers) 1) Each player has a
futebol: 3 players 3 futebols (4/4, 5/5 etc.)
* Rapid interchange of Futebols among group (2 or 3 touch restriction)
* Add Hot Colors - Restrictions or limitations when receiving or passing a certain color.
* Keep futebols "Live" while passing soccer on ground ball between players.
2) 4's Up players/Futebol, 3 players/2 futebols (4/3, 5/4 etc.)
* Rapid interchange of futebols among group.
* "Work" player without Futebol off of the players with Futebols.
* Add Hot Colors - Restrictions or limitations when receiving or passing a certain color.
* Keep Futebols "Live" while passing soccer ball on ground between players.
3) 4's Down player/futebols, 2 players/ 3 futebols (4/5, 5/6 etc.)
* Keep futebols "Live"
* Add more futebols. 3 players/5 futebols.
* Add Hot Colors - Restrictions or limitations when receiving or passing a certain color.
* Keep Futebols `Live' while passing soccer ball on ground between players.
* Hot colors put specific demands on the players. The specific demands can be varied (3
touch w/blue Futebol, exchange w/yellow Futebol must be with the outside of the foot,
exchange of tile Futebol must be propelled down to create bounce). Obviously, we change
the demands of the players as we change the demands of the group. Over time Group Futebol
will sharpen the players' decision-making process, improve their communication, and
develop the sense of cooperation that is necessary to have a successful team. Competitions
created between the groups can help raise concentration and level of play.
TEAM FUTEBOL
Team Futebol creates team environments, promoting the development of problem solving,
communication, teamwork and decision-making as well as skill level. Team Futebol combines
the physical preparation with technical training providing widely varied benefits.
Example:
*All players with Futebols. Futebol "Live" with constant exchange of Futebols
(Add Hot Colors - Certain restrictions or limitations when receiving a certain color)
*(Short or long exchange/passes) Hot colors put specific demands on the players. The
specific demands can be varied (3 touch w/blue Futebol, exchange w/yellow Futebol must be
with the outside of the foot, exchange of tile Futebol must be propelled down to create
bounce).
* One half players with Futebol, one half without a Futebol. "Live". Go get one.
Players now are on the move looking to receive Futebols from teammates. Varied exchanges,.
short and long balls. Now the focus on receiving a bouncing Futebol, tracking, first
touch, eye-foot coordination come into play, Players gather touches, communicate
intentions, complete varied exchanges amongst each other.
* Subgroups. Team breaks into various sized groups playing within same large area.
(Static! Dynamic `Interaction between groups! Team responsibility. Penalties are paid as a
team) All subgroups do their own thing sharing one half of the field. All players are
responsible for keeping any and all Futebols "Live" that come in close
proximity- The whole group is responsible for all subgroups. This means that the players
must be aware of other Futebols and assist each other to keep all Futebols
"Live".
